A running festival in Central-West NSW for everyone.
Who we are
The Dubbo Stampede is an annual running festival set in the heart of regional NSW, bringing people together through health, wellbeing and community participation. With courses starting and finishing at Ollie Robbins Oval and following the Macquarie River, the event showcases Dubbo’s natural surrounds while creating a welcoming race day experience for locals and visitors alike.
A defining feature of the Stampede is its long standing connection with Taronga Western Plains Zoo, making it one of the oldest major running festivals in NSW to include a zoo within its course. The half and full marathon take runners through the zoo, while other distances follow river trails, offering a memorable and uniquely regional experience.
From inclusive walk, wheel and run events through to the half and full marathon, the Dubbo Stampede is designed to be accessible, supportive and enjoyable for participants of all ages and abilities.
What We Believe
There are three fundamental reasons why we are so enthusiastic about promoting the Dubbo Stampede experience.
-
We’re runners too and passionate about pounding the pavement (or dirt track)! We love promoting a sport that has long lasting positive health benefits.
-
The longstanding definition of health from the World Health Organization (WHO) formulated in 1948 is 'a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity'. We want adults and kids who participate in the Dubbo Stampede to finish with a smile and a healthier outlook on life!
-
The Dubbo Stampede is all about bringing people together in an active, positive and inclusive environment. We encourage everyone to participate, from walkers and plodders to elite runners and athletes. For those who aren’t able to participate, you can still join in the fun by cheering on the runners.
How We Help
The Dubbo Stampede is a not-for-profit event run to improve the health and wellbeing of our community. Here are some ways we have helped in the past and how we continue to help.
01
Parkrun & Local
Running Promotion
We've supported a number of not-for-profit groups whose goals and intentions lead to a healthier and more active community. These include Dubbo Parkrun and the Vixens and Kits. We also support regional running events through cross promotion.
02
River Beautification
Initiatives
Enhancing the Tracker Riley Path along the Macquarie River is an initiative that everyone can enjoy, creating a more inviting and user-friendly environment. Contributing to improving pathways, landscaping and positive experiences for the users will further enrich the river experience.
03
Sing Out
Choir
Sing out Dementia Choir was established in Dubbo to bring together those living with dementia and their families through song. Dementia doesn’t seem to impact on the memory of song. This program makes the day a little brighter by bringing community together to sing some favourite tunes.
04
Tradies in
Sight
Tradies in Sight work alongside regional Trades men and women to raise awareness and support mental health training.
This team runs BBQs and functions across regional NSW.
05
Taronga Zoo
Animal Hospital Construction
Donations made by the Dubbo Stampede have contributed to the building of the new animal hospital at Taronga Western Plains Zoo. It’s an awesome experience to watch live treatment of animals through the operating theatre windows.
06
Domestic Violence Accommodation
Dubbo Stampede has proudly contributed funds to local Dubbo domestic violence accommodation so that local women and children have a safe refuge when escaping DV.
07
Indigenous Marathon
Project
We are proud to support the Indigenous Marathon Project (IMP) as our partner cause. The IMP is a healthy education initiative that builds leaders in our Indigenous communities. It promotes running, healthy lifestyles and compliments other Indigenous community health initiatives.
08
Tracker Riley
River Lighting Project
We worked with Dubbo Regional Council and Titan Macquarie Mud Run on the Tracker Riley River Running Track lighting project. Light poles were erected along the path to create a safer environment. As one of Dubbo's greatest community assets and this project has made the Macquarie River accessible for more people.
Get Involved
There are many ways to be part of the Dubbo Stampede beyond race day. Whether you are interested in volunteering, sponsoring the event or getting in touch with the organising committee, we welcome your involvement and support.
